GENERAL INFORMATION

Venue
The 5th International Conference on Applied Energy (ICAE) will be held at the Conference Centre in the University of Pretoria (Hatfield Campus), Lynwood road, Hatfield, Pretoria. University of Pretoria was established in 1908, and has become one of the leading higher education institutions on the African continent. Currently it has more than 50 000 students on campus. Language
The official language for the Conference is English. All papers shall be prepared in English.

Arrival
Pretoria can be best reached from the OR Tambo Airport at Johannesburg via shuttle or Gautrain services, see the relevant information on Travel.

Climate and Clothing
July is in winter period of South Africa. It will be a bit cold and dry in Pretoria, and the average temperature is about 6-23 ℃ . The temperature at noon is usually around 15-23 ℃ , while in the mid-night it can be as cold as 0 ℃ in extreme days. There will usually be no rain in winter in Pretoria.

Currency and Banking
Local currency is the South African Rand (ZAR). The exchange rates to USD and EUR can be estimated as 1USD=8ZAR, 1EUR=10ZAR, which fluctuate a bit every day. Visa and MasterCard are accepted in almost all shops, hotels, garages, restaurants, etc. American Express and Diners Club are unfortunately not accepted so widely. In most cases, you can simply swipe your credit card and do not need to pay by cash. Major banks include ABSA, Nedbank, Standard bank, First National Bank (FNB), etc.

Electricity
Electricity is supplied at 220/230V, 50Hz AC throughout South Africa. The plugs in South Africa is different from most of the countries in the world, see the figure below from wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BS_546).

Liability
The conference secretariat and organizers cannot accept liability for personal accidents, loss of or damage to private property of participants, students and accompanying persons, either during, or directly arising from the ICAE2013. Participants should make their own arrangements with respect to health and travel insurance.
