Bjorn Stigson

Björn Stigson has extensive experience in international business. He began his career as a financial analyst with the Swedish Kockums Group. From 1971-82 he held various positions in finance, operations and marketing with ESAB, the international supplier of equipment for welding. In 1983-91 he was President and CEO of the Fläkt Group, a company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange and the world leader in environmental control technology. Following the acquisition of Fläkt by ABB, in 1991 he became Executive Vice President and a member of ABB Asea Brown Boveri’s Executive Management Group. In 1995 he was appointed President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), a coalition of some 200 leading international corporations.

Since April 2010 he is visiting professor holding the Assar Gabrielson chair in Applied Corporate Management at the
School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.
Bjorn Stigson is also Honorary Doctor at the
Malardalen University, Sweden.

Björn Stigson has served on the board of a variety of international companies and organizations. He is presently a member of the following boards/advisory councils: Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation; China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development; Energy Business Council of the International Energy Agency (IEA); America’s Climate Choices Initiative of the US Congress; the Veolia Sustainable Development Advisory Committee and the Siemens Sustainability Advisory Board.

"Study on Hybrid CO2 Capture Processes for Pre-Combustion"

Weiyang FEI is a professor in Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University and a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His main research area is separation science and engineering. Based on theoretical studies, he concentrated on bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial application. He achieved several outstanding theoretical and practical accomplishments, such as 2 National Prizes on Science and Technical Progress and 14 Provincial or Ministerial Prizes on Science and Technical Progress. In recent years, he pays more attention on the Greenhouse Gas CO2 capture and the intensification of very large separation processes. He has published more than 200 papers. He is director of Chinese Society of Circular Economy,fellow of Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China and fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.

"What Will Fuel Developing Asia's Inclusive and Sustainable Growth? - Energy Sector Challenges and Opportunities"

Mr. Pil-Bae Song is Senior Advisor and Practice Leader (Energy) of Asian Development Bank (ADB) providing policy advisory support to ADB management. He is concurrently assigned as Chair of Energy Community of Practice of ADB, leading formulation and implementation of ADB’s Energy Policy. Prior to his assignment to the current position, Mr. Song was appointed Director of Energy Division in the Central and West Asia Department of ADB overseeing a range of ADB's lending and non-lending operations. In this capacity, he also led regional cooperation in the energy sector under Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC). Mr. Song has been working in ADB since 1996. In his career with ADB, he led numerous project processing and administration teams for energy related development projects as well as procurement and consultants recruitment activities in Asia and the Pacific region, apart from coordinating energy sector operations in the region with stakeholders. He was also assigned several different positions including Senior Advisor to Vice-President, Project Administration Unit Head, and Procurement Specialist. Prior to joining ADB, Mr. Song worked as a head of department in a leading power company, Korea Power Engineering Company Limited, being in charge of project management activities of power projects in Korea and overseas.
 
 

Dennis Best

"Meeting the 2 degree target by 2050, key considerations for CCS, and BECCS"

Dennis Best is based in Paris, France, with the International Energy Agency (IEA). He is Programme Officer in the Division for Asia Pacific and Latin America and working with the Directorate for Sustainable Policy and Technology. With a focus on analysis of options to address climate change mitigation challenges through cleaner coal, including carbon capture and storage initiatives, his work focuses on development and engagement with countries that cooperate closely, but are not members of the IEA. He recently developed IEA’s first country specific analysis of Carbon Capture and Storage Prospects and Challenges in China, and contributes to work on Biomass and BECCS analysis at the IEA.

Over the past ten years his experience has focused across private and public sectors advising corporate clients, government agencies and NGOs on technology and sustainability policy at the intersection of energy and IT technology, rural development, trade and innovation policies. With several years focusing on emerging clean energy initiatives and SME development in Beijing and San Francisco, as well as elsewhere, his interests span a range of policy and systems approaches to energy and development challenges.

While in the private sector, his recent work has included a China Biodiesel Market Assessment 2008 and a demand side analysis of consumer support for green power and smart grid technologies in the US; Dennis also has working fluency in Mandarin, and Spanish, with experience advising non-government organizations on rural development projects in Asia and Latin America.

Ms. Bethan Keall
Publishing Director (London), Elsevier


"A guide to publishing your research: writing, reviewing, ethical issues and content innovation in journal publishing"

Bethan Keall is Director of Earth & Planetary Sciences and Energy in STM journal publishing. She began her career, at Elsevier, 10 years ago in 2002, having studied Geography and Geology, Bsc, at the University of Manchester. Her first role was as a Therapy Sales Manager, within Elsevier’s Health Sciences division, responsible for sales across journal portfolio’s, including The Lancet, selling to corporate clients such as GlaxoSmithKline & Astra Zeneca. In 2009, she was appointed as the Executive Publisher for the Earth and Planetary Sciences team and was then promoted in 2011 into her present role. In her current role her main responsibilities include growing high quality content across the journal titles, while increasing Elsevier’s market share of papers and the journals’ impact factors. Bethan is also heavily involved in working with the commercial sales and innovation teams to bring in supplements, procedia, advertising revenue and innovative content development, such as KML files creating googlemaps and data linking with external repositories.
